Ever wonder what your bouquet gets up to before it lands in your hands looking all cute, fresh, and fabulous? We LOVE hearing from our Happy Customers—especially when you tell us how long your flowers last. (We beam. We blush. We brag to the cooler.) But behind every long lasting bouquet is a whole lot of behind the scenes magic!
And oh boy… there is so much going on behind the scenes. Among the many things it takes to keep Stems from the Heart running smoothly is the task of flower sourcing and processing—aka the part of the job nobody sees, but every bouquet depends on. The journey of your flowers begins long before they ever reach our little shop. We work with trusted distributors and local growers to bring in carefully selected premium blooms: fresh seasonals, long lasting favorites, and those designer darling flowers we can’t resist. It’s like assembling a cast for a floral rom com.
As fun as it would be to jump right in when our amazing distributors drop off those gorgeous blooms, the real secret to their long life is the pampering that happens in the back room. Flowers get trimmed, thorns and leaves get tidied up, and each stem gets a quick dip to instantly hydrate after its road trip from grower to cooler. Think of it as a spa day with better lighting.
But the pampering doesn’t stop there. We tuck our blooms into temperature controlled coolers stocked with fresh water and flower food. We regularly change their water and give them little stem trims to help with absorption and prevent blockages—basically, we’re their personal hydration coaches.
Once they’re refreshed and ready, our designers step in. Beyond choosing flowers and colors you request, they build bouquets with balanced structure, airflow between stems, and that signature Stems from the Heart charm. Pretty is great, but pretty and long lasting is our love language.
As you can see from this (very abbreviated!) peek into a flower’s day at our shop, it takes a whole team to keep things running smoothly here at your local flower shop. And honestly? We consider ourselves lucky. We get to work with people we adore, create meaningful arrangements for our community, and send out bouquets that brighten homes long after delivery.
