🌸 Bloom Notes: Meet the Floral Distributors!
Good morning, floral peeps!
Today we’re taking you behind the scenes into the wonderful world of floral distributors — the folks who help keep our coolers full, our bouquets blooming, and our customers smiling.
I know some people truly believe we have a magical secret garden out back with every flower imaginable growing in perfect rows. Honestly… wouldn’t that be AMAZING? A rainbow garden we could just wander into and snip from whenever inspiration strikes? Sadly, no secret garden here — just a hardworking little shop and a whole lot of planning.
🌼 How It Really Works
When orders come in, we make a plan of attack and reach out to our distributors. That’s why ordering ahead is so important, especially if you’re hoping for something specific or unique.
Weddings? Oh boy.
We order months in advance. Specialty flowers sometimes need even more time, depending on where they’re grown and how quickly they can be shipped.
Flowers come from all over the world — not just locally. But we LOVE local when we can get it. Local blooms usually have less handling, less travel stress, and arrive looking fresh, happy, and ready to shine.
🚚 Our Flower Trucks
We only get flower trucks a few times a week. They bring our everyday staples, and then… if Dodie is allowed on the truck… well, let’s just say she tends to come back with “pretty usually fun things.” Our distributors know we love seeing new varieties and colors, and they spoil us with surprises to tuck into arrangements.
🌿 Our Three Main Sources
Krueger — Twice a week, light green truck, absolute rockstar. He goes out of his way for us constantly. He carries flowers on the truck, so if something comes up mid‑route, we can run out and grab what we need. You become like family with people like this — sharing stories, jokes, holiday chaos, and the occasional “I got your back” moment.
Len Busch Roses — Also twice a week if needed. We order online now, but I worked with our old rep back when my boys were babies… and now they’re in high school. Len Busch grows a lot of their product in‑house, and getting flowers straight from the grower is just chef’s kiss.
Windgate Farms — Our newest addition! Once a week, wonderful people, beautiful product. We’ve loved working with their zinnias this fall, and I cannot WAIT to see their tulips in the spring.
🎄🌹 Holiday Madness
Right now, they’re bringing me Christmas greens.
Before Christmas even arrives, they’ll bring Valentine’s order forms.
During Valentine’s, they’ll need Easter orders.
And so on… forever.
I have to track what we sold last year, adjust orders, check what days holidays fall on, and then make my best guess about what people will want this year. The I THINK part is the worst. You can think one thing… and the opposite happens. Spending money on flowers that might go or might not go? Anxiety city.
💐 A Peek Behind the Curtain
So that’s a little glimpse into what it’s like working with distributors. It’s not a secret garden — it’s a whole network of growers, drivers, reps, farms, and friends who help us bring beauty to your moments.
